How far in advance do you send invitations for a bbq?
We are having a class bbq at our house on June 16.
When should I hand out invitations?
Would tomorrow be too early (4 weeks in advance)?

Honestly, it depends on how many "no" responses I want. 
If you want all those kids to come, I would send them out now. If you are hoping for a few more no's, I would wait until June 1st-ish.

Weekends in the summer get booked up FAST. I already have 2 events in June, and 3 events in July. Send the invitations out now.
