How Drunk is too Drunk
I have been thinking about this since yesterday. Saturday Night was DH's work holiday party. He stayed out till 4am...which I really don't care about...what is concerning is how intoxicated he was. He was sick until about 3pm yesterday afternoon.
I got to thinking that at our age...getting so drunk that you vomit is kind of pathetic....especially since your children are questioning why you keep throwing up.
What do you think. Is getting drunk to the point of being sick ok for adults? Or should that level of intoxication be left to college students?

how did he get home? did he drive?
im kind of on the fence about it - I think i would be annoyed especially since I have a toddler that deserves time spent with him on the weekends instead of with your head in the toilet.
4am does seem a bit excessive though

No, it don't think it's appropriate to get that drunk but things do happen.
However, DH wouldn't get the luxury of laying around, nursing his hangover and no responsibility. It's preventable "sickness" so daddy duty goes on as normal.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
well i'm 28 years old--and i'm not gonna lie--the last time i was REALLY drunk was for my friends bachelorette party -- and i was pretty freaking lit---puking and sleeping till 3 pm the next day.

as long as its not a every wknd occurrence--i think that sometimes ppl just can get carried away, and once you're already wasted--you don't feel the extra drinks and keep going...and then you feel it more later.
sometime we forget that the same amount that was okay at 20 itsn't the same at 30 or 40!

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
I have been pretty drunk. At my last job's christmas party. I got WAY Drunk. I knew I wasn't gonna stay at that job that long so I didn't care. I left my car at the place and got a ride home. I have NEVER been sick. But I have been trashed enough to not be able stand straight
I think if it's once a year (IE our block party happens once a year. We are home and all my friends stay over) It's ok. If it happens a lot then there's a problem. Im sure he was mad at himself for feeling so crappy yesterday

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
Honestly, I think there are just too many factors in drinking to the point of vomitting. I also don't think age has anything to do with it....since tolerance does change...
- forgetting to eat - bad mix of alcohol - etc...
If it happens constantly, then it's a problem....but if it's once in a blue moon, I'd let it slide.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
DH's friends got tix and a limo to an Islanders game last year. He came home very late and was sick as a dog the whole next day. He has since never done anything near that. I think his lesson was learned by being sick. I remember doing that a bit in my younger days. I would say if it is a once in a blue moon thing, I would let it go. But if next weekend he was like "I'm going out with the guys" I would be more than pi$$ed.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
I dont care that he stayed out late...it's a rare occurance that that he stays out that late, and it was his work holiday party. I don't care that he was drunk. I care that he was sick...too sick to play with his children. I know that I would be tick at myself if I had my head in the toilet because I couldn't control myself; when I should be playing with my children.

When you start to think that it's Ok to take out your phone and call an ex
The last time I was REALLY drunk was a month before I got preg. I think that may be the LAST time. It took WAY to long to recover.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
I used to party hard back in the day and drink, drink, drink until I got sick, stupid I know.
Probably in the last 3-4 years, I've simmered down. I more concerned with driving, so I try and limit myself to 3-4 beers while at a friends house (over a couple of hours). I rarely get sick anymore.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
once in a while to get drunk to release some stress is okay..puking not so much okay but it happens. i personally would love to get drunk like i used to but i'm completely useless the next day and i just feel i have too much responsiblity now to nurse a hangover and waste a whole day recovering

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
I think there are other things that go into it like someone above posted.
One new years I was dehydrated and had a few drinks and then a cigarette (and I haven't smoked since college!) and I was sooooooo sick. Granted I had been drinking but not enough to the point where I should have been that sick. I think it was the cigarette but thats not something I could know was going to happen.
If it happens a lot then I would be worried.

Ever since I became a mom, I have to say that there is no getting drunk anymore - there is no way I can stumble home and pass out... Not when i have to be responsible for a baby....

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
i'm sure he felt bad about it and didn't plan to get so hammered that he was puking all day. I don't know anyone who would *want* to party that hard.
like someone else said, if it was a one time thing, I would let it go.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
one time thing and i would say ehh let it go. dh (mind you, he was 24 at the time) had too much to drink for his b-day and threw up... he wasn't sick the ENTIRE next day but he did ralph. i've been there before too (twice actually - however, i was 21).
if this is something that has happened before or if it happens again within a close time period i would prob say to him "alright, you need to exercise some personal responsibility here" being that he is, like you stated, older and has children - but being that he did get as sick as he did i doubt he'll be doing this again - which is why it only happened to dh once and me twice - b/c when you do get that sick usually once or twice is it for most people b/c they, next time around, say "oh geez - i want to have fun but i don't want to be like i was that time in NYC - yikes!" KWIM??
hope that all makes sense... i would just talk to him about it and let him know that you feel a lil let down that he had to go that far - and see if he says "yeah, it was really BAD and stupid - i should have been more careful" vs "it's not a big deal to drink to that excess" ...that response would concern me b/c most people go for choice A after drinking that much.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
I don't drink to get specifically toget drunk anymore. I think that is a little childish after awhile.
However after I made that deciision, there were still times, when I just got a little carried away with social drinking.
I think it taskes a few of those times, before you realize, your life is too busy, & your timeis too important, and that you start to be really careful, to never let it get to that point.
Your kids might be too young for this, but I clearly remember my mother telling me one Saturday morning that "Daddy was sick because he had too many beers at he Ground Rond with Bob & Danny" (Seriously, the Ground Round!)
I was probably around 6, and I 'll never forget that.

Re: How Drunk is too Drunk
Once in a blue it happens, not to me, I don't really drink but as long as it was limited to like once or twice a year I wouldn't really care. I would just play really loud heavy metal music

Ditto...everyone makes mistakes. I am sure he would have rather spent the day with the kids then being sick.
