How does this sounds for a "care package" for NICU parents?

Thank you everyone for your great ideas. I decided to make our friends a "care package" to at least start them off in their first week back and forth to the hospital.

Homemade muffins, cookies & brownies
Snacks (like trail mix bars, pretzels, etc.)
baby books (to read to the baby)
crossword puzzle/sudoku puzzle
maybe magazines
book about preemies (or is this not a good idea??? I am sure they are overwhelmed with info. from the dr's. I am sure it can help, but it may also scare them)
gift card to dunkin donuts

Anything else you think I should add?

Instead of a book about preemies, how about a preemie memory book?? Better idea?

A GC to a laundromat?

I had a lot of help the one week, ds & dd were in the hospital. My sisters did my laundry.

I think the book is a great idea. My son was born 6 weeks premature and was in NICU. I was given the book "Preemies: The essential guide for parents of premature babies." It was actually very helpful. When the doctors and nurses are bombarding you with info about the health of your baby, it's hard to digest it all. It was nice to be able to turn to the book in between checking in with the hospital staff.

That's a great gift! I would have loved something like that when I was going back and forth to the hospital 4 times a day! I like the preemie book idea...DH did a lot of reading on the internet about preemies!

So nice of you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

dr sears wrote a book and it was great!!! it was a reference book for the nicu...also a lesson plan, calendar is a good idea so they can keep track of everything going on....test results...feeding amounts...weight gain

I think that's so nice of you, they will really appreciate it. You could throw in a GC to a restaurant so maybe they can eat one night on their way home. I like the idea of the Preemie tracker book too so they can keep track of the weights, etc.

maybe some homecooked meals that they could just microwave when they got in sometimes instead of wondering what there was to eat in the house!!

oh and maybe a new blanket that way it would feel as if they were putting some new things on their new baby not just hospital blankets

ITA-I was overwhelmed with the whole preemie/Nicu situation and reading the book helped-for me knowing about all the wires, milestones etc that needed to be met helped instead of being confused I was informed.
