Re: how does the sizing work for baby clothes

if you have a big baby, nb will not fit...in our families everyone always had big babies, both dh and i were over 8 lbs too...so we bought no nb sized stuff....and then dd was born, and was tiny....so when she was five days old, we packed her in the car and drove to brus and bought nb clothes.....Chat Icon

NB is supposed to be for less than 8lbs. I believe 0-3 months is supposed to b 8-12lbs. But my DD was 8lbs1oz and wore NB for almost 2 months. She even wore a few preemie dresses (which they say is 5-8lbs).

DS was 8 lbs 1 oz when he was born. Although the newborn clothing supposedly only goes up to 8 lbs, he was wearing them for at least 1 month.

Re: how does the sizing work for baby clothes

DD was 6lbs 3 oz at birth and came home under 6 lbs. She was in preemie sizes and newborn for a few weeks. I can't see an 8 lb baby or bigger fitting in newborn size. I guess it can't hurt to have one or two outfits on hand just in case.

They measured DD the day before my c/s and estimated her at over 8 lbs which is a 2lb difference for a baby. Big difference when it comes to clothing.

DS was 9.14 and 22.5 inches. He had 1 or 2 NB outfits that he did wear but only once, they were snug.

His 0-3 clothing was big on him at birth but within a week or two it fit like a glove.

DD was born at 7lbs 8oz and 20". She went down to 6lbs 8oz when we left the hospital and was back up to birth weight at her 2 week check up.

She wore NB for 3 months. Everything that was 0-3 was huge on her. At 3 months she started wearing 0-3. At 6 months she started wearing 3-6. Now at 8 months old I'm just starting to put her in 6-9 month outifts and many are still too big. And Gap does 6-12 so they don't fit her at all yet.

DD was 9lbs 4 ozs and 20 inches. I didn't have any newborn clothes b/c I knew she was going to be a big baby. Honestly I could have used some her 0-3 month outfits were HUGE on her.

I would get maybe say 3 or 4 inexpensive things and get mostly 0-3. If you have a big baby who doesn't look like they will fit into the newborn then you just return them. But at least this way you have them and you don't have to run to the store with a newborn.
