How do you relieve the following cold symptons for your DC

He has a runny nose and I suction it out as much as possible but he is so strong and really puts up a fight.

The other thing is his cough. He was sound asleep last night for about 2 hours. I had the humidifier on and the Pedi Vapor Plug in. Then he starts coughing and I coudnt get him back to sleep for 4 hours!

His congestion I think I took care of with the humidifier but it doesnt seem to be helping and I really cant give him any more decongestant since he has had everyday since Friday and the dr. knows this.

I feel so bad for him because he is just miserable durning the day and I really do not know what to do anymore. Also how long does this usually last

Did they do a chest x-ray for his cough?

If it continues I would get one done, just to be on the safe side.

Well then if his lungs are ok I wouldn't worry to much about it, I'm sure he will be better in the next couple of days, if not I would bring him back to the dr's.

Do you use the saline nose drops? They help a lot. I also use the humidifier and warm baths to relieve congestion.

We use the saline and suction and the humidified with a vaporizer. This last time we used decongestant drops but my Dr. warned me that the rebound congestion with those decongestants can be worse than the initial so that might be what you're going through. Sorry Chat Icon Just keep on with saline and have you raised his mattress?

I guess it is just going to take time and it will go away on its own. I have also been using the saline drops. I havne't raised the mattress on one side only because I feel like I need to lower his mattress to the last setting before I do so because I am nervous he might flip out.

I used the Triaminic Infant strips when she was coughing really bad....just 1 though.

And when she got her bath at night, I'd run the shower first at full hotness to steam up the room, then turn it down and fill the bath and we'd sit in there with the door closed

My doctor told me not to use the aspirator (nose sucky thing) - it will do more harm than good. We used the saline drops and humidifier, also keeping the heat down at night, and their colds went away. Chat Icon

Just saline drops, humidifier, and keeping the heat down at night. I don't use an aspirator. Whenever my son starts to get congested, if I lower the heat at night it goes away so much quicker. I just put an extra onesy on under his flannel pjs.

I hope he feels better soon! Chat Icon Chat Icon

my dr said it helps to bring them in the bathroom with you while you take a shower-the steam is good for them!
Saline nose drops too...I dont really believe in giving them too many syrupy medications-too much sugar and its kinda just masking the infection-but at night time sometimes I will so they get a better night sleepChat Icon
Good luck hope he's feeling better soon!

Chat Icon is that maybe b/c of age? Ours told us we didn't need it when she was younger but most recently told me to use b/c she no longer sneezes it out on her own. She said that's a reflex that they have at the beginning that they lose as they get older.
