How do you make a BM stash when your DC eats more than you can produce?

I had a post going but it deleted my "post heading" so I can't click on it....wth?

anyway, DS is 8 days old and i am still only pumping 3 ounces, no more than that. Should my milk be more than that by now? I was pumping 4-5 ounces with DD from EACH boob by this point. He eats everything I produce and is still hungry so I supplment with Enfamil Newborn nursettes for after the breastmilk bottle. How do I make a stash of extra breastmilk when he eats everything I pump and I pump every 2 hours? Should I contact a LC or is it too early? Should I give him formula for a day and stash everything im pumping?

I only BF for a few months but I'm pretty sure that it is still early to start making a BM stash. I was told to try to pump after your LO eats so that you body learns that it needs to produce more. If you keep at it then your body *should* start to make more as it thinks your LO needs more. Does that make sense?

IMO I would keep doing what you're doing. Not sure if that is the right advice but that is what I would do.

ETA: There are always things you can try like like drinking more water, I've heard oatmeal is good, Mother's Milk, etc.

I am sure you posted before, but why are you EP? Your supply will increase if you feed him from the breast.

Keep trying to get him to latch on, and pump religiously every 2-3 hours at first. Is he tongue tied or just not getting it? Even him attempting to latch on can help with supply and let down.

Try pumping while you feed him too. And of course, oatmeal, tons of water all that jazz..

I was never able to pump more than 4 oz at a time total and only had to occasionally supplement with DD1 (she didn't want to latch for the first 8 weeks, but she did eventually)

I would give all BM to your DC and not worry about doing a freezer stash (don't feed formula to freeze BM for later) The fresher the BM the better for baby, and the younger they are the more it benefits them.. give as much BM as you can, supplement with formula if necessary, and dont sweat a freezer stash

I agree with the PP about getting a new LC. Putting the tongue up and pushing the nipple out is pretty typical. Your LO is just learning to nurse, so the more practice he gets, the better.

Madelyn did the SAME thing and the nurse in the hospital gave me a nipple shield. It helped, although i wish she'd just taken the time to TEACH me how to teach her how to latch properly.

Once I got an LC, she showed me and told me that getting Mads to latch, even for a minute at a time was progress.
