How do you know if they are righty or lefty?

One of my sons does some stuff lefty and other stuff righty. He writes with his right hand but I am wondering if his problem with writing is the hand he is using? He clearly kicks lefty and bats way better lefty. Any way to know for sure. I would hate to be forcing him to write righty.

Holy crap that was a hard bunch of sentences to write with all the rights and writes in it, LOL.

Watch how he draws and colors. "Writing" is more formal, and he may be using the "wrong" hand, since that's how he is being taught, but when they just pick up a crayon to doodle, they are going to use the hand they are comfortable with.

Not everyone is completely "right handed" or "left handed". Some kick with the left, and write with the right. There are switch hitters, and ambidextrous people.

Have him stand with his feet together and give him a little push...not hard enough to knock him over (obviously) but enough so that he's gotta put a foot out to brace himself...whichever foot comes out is his dominant side. However I'd do it a couple of times since you say he's using both sides (and since I'm pretty sure this is not scientifically proven )

you can also try having them put their hands behind their backs. Hold out a crayon and have them take it - their dominant hand should come out.


and like GR said, DH writes lefty, but does everything else righty.

all my kids write with their right hands and play sports with their left
