How do you get background info on doctors?
Can anyone tell me how and where to look to find out background information on a doctor? For example, how many years experience, where did they go to school, if they are/were ever involved in any type of malpractice?
TIA!

Re: How do you get background info on doctors?
You can use New York Doctor profile
It will give you info on their medical school, medical training, hospital affiliations, office info, certifications, etc.
It will give you listings on medical malpractice settlements and suits. It is a great site for some genera information. One BIG very BIG caveat with it.
The site is NOT often updated - and items can be missing.
One warning with the malpractice info - I can tell you from when I worked in the field - that the info can be very sketchy - it is NOT complete and does not give an accurate picture. I had doctors who had say 10 open cases but and several settlements - but they came up with nothing on NYdrprofile. I forget exactly how the listing works (since we were not involved with it) but I believe settlements - are listed after something like 2 (unless the doctor updates it). Suits can take a LONG time to end up on there after they are over. Remember just b.c they don't show settlements or suits does not mean that they do not have multiple suits in the works (it can take several years for a suit to go to trial).

Re: How do you get background info on doctors?
Thank you sooooooooooo much for all of this information. I wonder if there is any other place to search for updated and complete malpractice information. This is definitely a good start though.
