How do you explain the death of a father to a 4 y/o?
My husband passed away very suddenly Sunday morning. My 4 year old saw him, but thankfully thinks he was sleeping.. We told him he went to the hospital because he was very sick.... I don't want him to think he died at home.. But how do I explain death to him? He knows something is wrong...

I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I don't have an answer. When my friend lost her Mom she told her 4 year old twins that Grandma went to heaven (but she was sick for a long time). Hugs to all of you.

OMG- I am so very sorry for your loss.
I told my 5 and 6 year old that their grandma went to heaven because she got sick. I explained it was a happy place and we could still feel her in our hearts even though we would never see her again.
Even now my younger one asks if grandma could come back to life if we go to see her in the cemetery. Its a hard concept for little ones.
I am so very sorry. My prayers are with your family.

I am so so sorry - imo it is harder because it was sudden. when my FIL was sick, Mikayla was really close to him. when he was dx with terminal cancer, we told her he was very sick and that he would probably be going up to heaven. He died almost exactly a year after the initial diagnosis and telling her he went up to heaven was the most heart wrenching thing I have ever been through. my heart absolutely breaks for you and your son.
I would maybe say that daddy is now in heaven and that he has a special guardian angel watching over him, if you believe in that sort of thing. TONS of hugs and prayers

I am so sorry for your loss. I know of many friends and family members who's husband's have died while there children were very young. Many of them have turned to putting there children in therapy to have a professional help explain.

This is what I am trying to do.. I am having a hard time finding some place that takes our insurance, but I have a few more places to call...
