how do you explain a cleft lip to a child?

so my DD who is 2 saw a little boy at the park today who has a cleft lip. she freaked out said he was scary and she was scared.

i tried to explain to her as best as i could to a 2 year old, that he was born different and hes not scary looking, well needless to say, she didnt buy it and started to cry, saying he was scaring her.

ughhh, i feel bad, but is there a way to let her know he was not trying to frighten her?

I don't have time to write the whole thing out, but my DD had an experience with a little boy who was in her PreK. He was kind of "scary" to her at first but as you will see it all worked out
