We have a big fence in our den that blocks off the computer, entertainment center and stereo. It's not all that attractive, but I know they can't get at any of it and I can leave them alone in there so I can grab a shower.

It's this one: Wide Spaces Swing Gate and we have about 10 of the add on panels since it's a wide room. It was a little expensive, but we've had it up for over 2 years so it was worth it to me.

I don't "baby proof" anything in my home, with the exception of the obvious (electrical outlets, etc.). As his mother before him, from the time my grandson was able to get around, he learned what he could and could not touch. If he was going for something that was not allowed, a firm no and taking him out of the situation would suffice. Of course, this had to happen time and time and time again until he understood. If he got upset, oh well, too bad, so sad. He has plenty of toys to play with and there are certain things that he can touch. I have my Christmas decorations displayed and I am sure he will want to touch, but, we are at the point where I don't have to tell him more than once or twice that he cannot touch something. My children learned and my grandchildren will, as well.

Same here. DS now knows not to play with the CD drives, and to not use our PC without our OK. He can use his own PC (he's only in the computer room when we are there with him), but he knows what he can and can't do. Teaching is much better than physically blocking. (except with safety-related things, of course)

Same here. My 19 month old even helped me put up the xmas tree and ornaments. We are a firm believer of teaching them what's okay to touch and what's not, I think sometimes we forget that everything is a new adventure to them to explore.
