how do we know what contractions feel like?
i now this sounds like a crazy question. Also Braxton Hicks - what do those feel like?
How can the doctors tell when/if you are having contractions? thanks.

For me it felt like I was going to get my period any second...really bad cramps is the only way that I could explain it

For the ones I have been having it feels like a tightening of my stomach-like being stretched really tight for a few moments than it goes away and comes back a few minutes later. SOme I feel but some I dont.

 i feel off on pains sometimes/like a stretch pull. The other day i felt mild cramps but thought nothing of it. it makes me wonder how will i know if i am having mild ones or not...

In the beginning I knew it was a contraction when I noticed it starting and stopping with some sort of pattern. Later you won't miss it because they'll make you stop whatever you are doing while they happen!

For the most part, your tummy/belly will tighten up and release (the muscles are "contracting").
The "pain" with it can vary from gas-like, period-like, mild discomfort all the way to MASSIVE and DEBILITATING. That is the part that leaves many women baffled (myself included) once the time comes. I've done this 2 times and had completely different experiences and both times didn't know I was in labor.
Drs. can tell a variety of ways if you're in labor...one obvious way is a fetal non-stress test as it will measure any contractions you have on a graph. And they really do peak and look like mountains on the screen/paper. The size can determine how severe they are as well...mine were really tall (ie- massive) and yet I barely felt them with my son, they were shocked. With my first, I was in serious pain for the whole time.
