How do they check for UTIs in babies?
Probably a dumb question but I am wondering... my DD has been fine but I have noticed her diapers definitely smells like pee now when before I would have a hard time knowing she was wet... not sure if this is normal? She will be 6 months on the 15th...could it also be that she pees more now and that is causing it?

You test the urine for a UTI.

Yes she has started eating solids. How would they collect it? Just wait holding a cup until she goes?
They attach a little sterile bag over her "area"-- it has adhesive on it, so it will stick to the skin...then urine that is excreted is collected in it, then they remove it (it doesn't rip the skin when removed), and test it.

Be aware if she has a fever. My DD had a UTI at 9 months old & the only symptom was a fever. They collected her urine & found the infection.

Yes, my DD had a 105 fever  and her urine REEKED. Those were my signs-- confirmed UTI with testing of the urine as I described above, plus then a catheter to confirm UTI.
