How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
DS will be 1 in two weeks and I want to begin him on milk. At our last dr visit the ped said "he will start milk when he hits a year old". But she didn't tell me what to do exactly. Did you wean your dc? Half milk, half formula? If so, for how long?
TIA!

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
DD#1 had milk/lactose issues so we weaned her really slowly (5oz formula/1oz milk for a couple of days, then 4oz/2oz...etc). It prob took us about 4 weeks to wean.
DD#2 we did half and half bottles for about 2 days and then tried a reg milk bottle and she had no problems. Didn't mind either way.
ETA: DD#1 we started at about 14 months b/c she had lactose issues, DD#2 we started right before she turned a year b/c I was out of formula and didn't want to buy more.

I did the whole switch in less than 2 weeks.
Just did 80formula/20milk then 50/50... so on and so on until 100% milk.
For us the switch was really easy, she loved reg milk.

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
we started at 11 months.. 1/2 milk 1/2 formula.
we never did all milk in a bottle..
at a year no more formula and no more bottles.. so there was never any confusion.

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
I tried to just switch, but that was too much for him so then I did it slow. I would say he was totally off formula in 2 weeks. I would only put an oz of milk in with his formula for 2-3 days then added another oz for 2-3 days and so on.

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
Thank you ladies. I am gonna try to introduce it in ounces like you said.
One more question, do you give the whole milk cold or warm it? I give DS his bottles room temp now.

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
I did it slow. First week was 1 oz milk to 5 oz formula Next week was 2 oz milk to 4 oz formula etc.
Her stomach was a bit upset by it so that is why I took it slow. Plus I wanted to finish up what formula I had left too!

Re: How did you stop feeding your DC formula?
I finished my last can of formula and went right over to milk 100%. I didn't do any gradual transition. My DD didn't even notice the change and drank like normal.

We never warmed up her milk. My girls always got room temp bottles or even cold bottles out of the fridge and never had a problem transitioning to cold milk.
