How could they sell this?

I was looking for a lamp for my son's room and I found this on the Disney website.

It's a Toy Story Animated lamp. I couldn't believe what I read???

It says on the page:

WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Chat Icon I know that it's great that they're telling people, but how could anyone make something that causes cancer like that for little kids? Especially Disney???

Maybe this is the norm for products, but to me I couldn't believe it when I read it. I would NEVER buy that even if it was only $1!!!

Sorry... just needed to vent about that!

Califormia has a very strict policy for advising consumers of even the smallest risk of lead and other dangerous exposures.

Its the wire that contains *some* lead product to protect the electrical wires.

Take a look at your Christmas lights, they have the same warning on them.

I was trying to send gifts to some of the children in my family at Christmas time and was very surprised to see this warning on many of the toys on the disney website.

Under California law ANYTHING that can pose a threat to you must be disclosed- I live here and see this sign EVERYWHERE. The lamp itself will probably not pose a threat unless your child were to actually ingest the whole thing! So don't worry- just a very litigious state making parents nuts!

Re: How could they sell this?

I read the same thing on my Nail Polish!!! And I bite my nails!!!! I didn't use it a whole lot during my pregnancy but I'm sure that when I did i bit my nails and ingested it. I'm sure it wasn't a lot and of course I stopped using it once I read it but I was always paranoid about it affecting my baby. Geesh...It never occured to me to read the fine print on nail polish.

Yep, CA has one of the strictest environmental laws around, so I am not surprised. You'd be surprised at how many "every day" things would carry that same warning in CA, and not elsewhere.
