How big is your family room?
We are looking to add a room off the back of our house - den/part of the room for EIK area (it would be an extension from the kitchen).
Looking to get an idea of a good size room to accomodate a couple of couches (maybe a sectional) and eating area - not too large, but comfortable.
Also, if you added your family room, would you mind sharing cost (or FMing me)?

we didn't add our Family Room, but it is about 300 sq ft. See pics in my Family Room album. We have a couch/TV area & an eating area.

Thanks! Very helpful. From what we measure off the house - we "think" 300 sq ft is the way we want to go (20x15) but I want the room to be comfortable, but not too big (I don't want to eat too much into our yard)
ETS: Your room def. gives me a good feel for ours. We would have it laid out similar except your wall with the mirror would be the kitchen opening, and the console table wall would be french doors to patio.

I believe our room is around the same size (20x15) it might be a little longer than that though. I could double check the length tonight if you want. Sounds like it will be a really nice room once you are done with it. GL!

We didn't add on, but our family room is about 18x14 and I feel that it is too small!!!!
I would love to expand it down the road too.
eta: We have room for 2 full size couches and 2 chairs, BUT we have a large fireplace that takes up almost the entire back wall that makes furniture placement difficult. If the FP wasn't there, the room probably wouldn't feel as small.

Just kidding, we dont have a family room, but if we decide to stay here we plan on adding about 20x15 as well. I think thats plenty big enough without feeling massive. But still gives you the room you need to spread out a bit!

ours is 14x19 I think. I have the most humongous couches. I think if I had normal sized furniture it would feel a lot bigger. It's technically my sons playroom and we have a large train table, an entertainment center, a cubbie toy storage unit and tons of other toys. It works and is fine, but definitely could use a foot or two in each direction more.

our den is about 12 x 12. I would do it bigger if I were you. we wouldn't have enough froom for our section and an eating area.

Mine is 12 x 16. I can only invite up to 2 family max at any time.
If we do our extension in the back it would be a MINIMUM of another 12 x 19 feet to make it 24 ft long. but that would be for a DR.
