how bad is it

to not give to a gift collection at your job???

heres the background:

In the last 3 days I have received a total of 6 different gift collections in my mailbox ( i am a teacher). For a total of $60 dollars. But heres where it takes the Chat Icon . I get one that says "so and so i buying a house with his fiance. We are collecting $10 for a home depot gift card as a house warming present."

I bought a house in January and received nothing!! I was thinking of only giving to 2 people because I talk to them.

Also just to add there is a sunshine club that collects $40 dollars a person at the beginning of the year. Never once have I heard that we gave anything from the sunshine account.

Would you be upset and would you give to everyone.

I wouldn't feel bad at all about not contributing!

I can see birthdays (maybe) baby/wedding shower type things but that's enough.

Something like that she be on the personal level with people you are friendly with or would invite to your actual housewarming.

1.) Yes, I would be upset.

2.) I would only contribute to those that I had a relationship with. What's the point of chipping in when you don't even know the person?

Re: how bad is it

we have a sunshine club at my school too- I don't know about your school, but we usually gave a GC for whoever was getting married/had a baby/and we would give a card and a little gift/candy or what not for birthdays and cards for holidays... I would ask your coordinator where the money is going!

I would NOT feel bad about not giving to each person... esp. since you did not get anything for a housewarming when you bought your house....Give for who you want to give forChat Icon

Ugh, schools are THE WORST about gift giving. It is SUCH a pet peeve of mine. I'm getting hit up left and right right now for weddings, baby showers, and fund raisers for people in my building who are in need.

People were extremely generous to me before my own wedding so I do like to reciprocate. I ususally just give a gift on my own (or with another close friend) and base the gift on how well I know the person. It makes life SO much easier for me.
