How annonying
3x this week our landscaper has come to the house unannounced. each time he has come i was either just getting out of the shower or still in my pjs and bathrobe. he rings the bell and stands there for about 5 minutes. i was not prepared to answer the door so i just let him stand there. he came AGAIN about 2 hours ago and i was in the kitchen making coffee. the dog was outside barking like crazy. here i was stuck in the kitchen for 10 minutes because again i wasn't prepared to answer the door.
they left a message once asking about a fall cleanup and we never called back. um hello, isn't that an indication that we aren't interested.
we are actually not too satisfied w/ his services (all he does he blows the leaves over the fence) so we are looking to hire a new landscaper. i feel bad for him because i know he needs the money but i am starting to get annoyed. i am hoping that he will come back later when DH is home.
ETA: he just called and left a message about a fall cleanup. i am going to tell DH to call him back when he gets home

Um - ok so I understand not wanting to answer the door not dressed, but the next time - why didn't you just open the door a crack and say sorry we are not interested in your services thanks and close the door or alternatively call him yourself?

i know that is what i should do or have done but i have i hard time saying no and i feel bad for the poor guy. it's his own business and i know that money is tight for him. we have paid him a great deal of money in the past but really aren't 100% staisfied w/ his work. the reality is, i am too much of a softy to fire him.

Re: How annonying
I would have answered the door the second time while you were having coffee and the dog was out- total indication you are home.
My landscaper ***** too , the one we use on a daily basis ( we have 2- the other 1 does our design work= the real landscaping, sod, sprinkler systems and cement) BUT thats b/c I am very picky. So I just told him what I want and hes now doing it, is it 100% NO but thats because Im too picky but for the rest of the world and DH it is fine, neat and clean.
Did you tell him you are not happy and why? everyone deserves that at least. after that , then fire him.

DH and i spent 4 hours yesterday raking and bagging leaves. there is still a TON left to do but we decided to wait until the spring to for a major cleanup. i called the landscaper and told him that we did the leaves ourselves and will call him in the spring. we plan to speak w/ him then and tell him exactly what we would like to have done and make sure that we keep on top of it every week. i would really like to hire a full-service company but he is very reliable and such a hard worker. it would break my heart if we had to fire him.
we'll see how it goes in the spring.
