How and when to start potty training DS

DS just turned 2 on Sunday. We bought him a potty. I know hes not ready yet to start potty training b/c he will not sit on the potty or go near it. How do you know when to start potty training and how do you go about doing it? DS is my first child. I also am used to girls. I have a sister and all nieces, so boys are new territory for me! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We started potty training DS when he was closer to 3 (30 months actually). Personally, I think 2 is bit too young to understand the concept.

We ultimately went cold turkey. Pull-ups kept DS feeling dry so he never knew when he wet himself. Regular, cotton underwear gets wet and uncomfortable so he learned quickly that he did not like the feeling.

How and when to start potty training DS

We potty trained DS at 25 months old using the 3 day method and it worked great. Before starting he wasn't showing any real signs of readiness and it still worked.

My DD will be 2 in April and I plan on starting the 3 day training in April. She doesn't sit on a potty now, but she does tell me when she does peepee in her diaper. According to the 3 day training they don't necessarily need to show signs of readiness. We shall see!
