I give a bottle of wine or a plant and a lowes or Home Depot gift card. Sometimes bed bath and beyond.

Another vote for a Gc to Home Depot, bed bath and beyond, home goods, or lowes. I also received an orchid from a friend. The gift cards were great and very much appreciated too. I give gift cards.
