House hunting

This is becoming a nightmare! We've looked at so many already, put an offer on 1 and nothing! Please tell me something will pop up!

We looked for two years, four offers and contracts and then finally found a house. It takes time.

New stuff comes up all the time. Where are you looking? Have you looked at the ones just above your price range? Prices seem to be dropping so maybe you can get a good deal.

Good Luck!!!

We have experienced the same thing the past 2 months. We are on our 5th house right now. Yeah, Seriously!Chat Icon

Two we were bidding wars. Two other houses they wouldnt budge from FULL asking price ( and they are still sitting on the market). House #5 looks good and I am saying my prayers!Chat Icon Chat Icon

All I can say is dont settle as a PP said. I can def say two of the houses we were settling on, b/c we were so sick of getting out bidded and just wanted a house. Make sure you wait for tje perfect house. For us house # 5 that we placed a bid on happens to be the nicest of all the houses. So be patient.

Lot's of LUCK!!

To the OP -

Where are you looking? Are you working with one agent, or just calling up different agents and companies to view houses that you see online?

Is your frustration that you are not finding any houses you like, among the ones you are viewing? If that's the case, I agree with the previous poster's suggestion to try looking slightly above your budget, becuase you never know what you will need to pay for a house just looking at the list point. A recent customer of mine wanted to stay at or under $350K, and I had to beg and plead with her to look at houses priced a little above that. She was discouraged at the condition of houses priced in the low $300s in the area she was looking, so I convinced her to look at one listed for $379K, and she fell in love. She wound up paying around $350K anyway!

I would also be open-minded about style of home. I honestly did NOT want a split level and my husband did NOT want a corner lot. Well, guess what we have? A split on a corner! Our agent convinced us to look at the house, and she was right -- it was perfect for us. If you have been looking for a certain style of home in a certain town and you don't see anything you like, you probably aren't going to buy that style, and should check out some others.

Also, if you work with one agent (assuming you are not already), the advantage is that they can keep an eye out for new listings that are coming out on the market that might suit your needs, preview homes for you, etc. -- just generally do a lot of the work and research for you, plus agents have access to info that you as the consumer don't have.

What happened with the offer you put in? Was it rejected, or did they never respond?

Let me know if I can help you! If you want a listingbook account, I can set you up with one (it gives you daily reports and updates from MLS -- new listings that meet your criteria, price changes, etc.). A lot of buyers love it!

Hope your luck changes -- house hunting should be fun!

Thanks very much! We are looking on the south shore of western suffolk from Holbrook to Islip. We have an agent and luckily he is DH's close friend, so whenever he sees something that we may like we go look at it right away! We found one in W. Sayville that we feell in love with and they accepted someone elses offer who were putting more money down. We are currently waiting to hear back on an offer we put in yesterday. I do have a listingbook account! My friend set me up with one and I am on it everyday! As for being open minded, I def am! It's my DH who drives me nuts, if he doesn't like the way itl ooks in a picture then he won't look at it. I keep telling him that pics are decieving and you have to at least look at it in person, there's nothing to lose! The house we are current;y waiting on is a high ranch, which I am not found of but liked the house, so we will see! Thanks so much for everyone's responses! Hopefully it gets better for us all!
