house deed questions
when do you usually get the deed to the house after purchase? i closed on 6/29 and we have the "HUD" but i don't think that is the same thing... also i since changed my name since closing, does anyone have experience on updating the deed name and how the process works? or if its necessary?

As of today, the Suffolk County clerk is entering deeds dated 7/13/30.
Nassau County is running about two months behind (so about June 1).
The recorded deed is usually sent to your attorney and then forwarded on to you with your closing statement.
You do not need to change the name on your deed. When and if you sell it you can use your new name (formerly known as _______).

i was going to write this. i haven't changed my name since we've been married (bad i know!), but our lawyer told us not to even worry about paying to change the name on the deed once i finally decide to change my last name. if you ever decide to sell the house, you'll just have to show your marriage license or birth certificate showing that you were formerly this name!
