We use VMS Security in Yaphank and they are terrific! Great personal service - 20+ years experience in the industry, they do their own installations, they don't sub-contract that out. Craig, the owner, is really a great guy. We called after-hours tonight with a question on our back up battery and the call center put us in touch with Craig - at his daughter's softball game! Helped us with what we needed and put my mind at ease.
You can see their basic package info on their website and you can upgrade from there, all the way up to remote video monitoring in your home if you want. I highly recommend paying the extra for the Alpha keypad that lets you know exactly what zone or window is not closed or tripping the alarm if you have a problem via text, not a code number.
They have a Preferred Customer program too where you get a card good for discounts from some of his commercial customers. If you go with VMS I'd appreciate your letting me know and telling him who referred you - they also offer bonus months monitoring for referrals.

sorry to bring this post up, but i am looking for alarms myself, and was just wondering what you were quoted for installation and monthly service? So far I have received quotes from Slomins, South Shore, A1, and United Alarms... just wanted to see if there is a company that offers installation for a reasonable price along with a reasonable monthly charge (so far it seems as though if the installation is high, the monthly rate is low, and vice versa). TIA!

When the installation is low the get you on the back end with the monthly rates. I posted above about VMS and we've been happy with them. Not cheap on the installation, but very thorough and we had an extensive system installed. Their service has been super.

I used to have ADT..but I think they are too $$$$$. I prefer and am happier with a family owned company. Dynasty, they are based out of LI.

we use Slomins. My only complaint and I am not sure if this is their issue or the way my phone is installed - if someone was to cut my phone lines, slomins will not get a signal that someone has entered my house.  So I guess I am SOL in that case.

If your alarm is hooked up only to your land lines then cutting the lines would break the connetion for a signal to get through. Same as if there as a storm. I don't know if it's an option with Slomins, but we had the option to have wireless phone monitoring too - for an extra fee they hook it up so the system makes a wireless call if there is a problem.

Do you have a backup radio? My DH does alarm systems and says a backup radio will send a signal to central station if the phone line is cut. Most of his customers set up the backup radio only, instead of having the phone line go to the panel, for this reason.
