Hotel in Rome?
Staying in Rome for 2 nights in September.
We usually use Starwood points for hotels, but since we've been traveling like maniacs, I don't have any left.
Some of the things I'm looking for: -Won't break the bank. -We're more of business hotel (aka large, international chains) than B&B/mom&pop hotels. -Don't mind staying outside of the city center as long as it's public transportation accesible AND there are bars/restaurants around the hotel.
TIA!

Re: Hotel in Rome?
Last summer we stayed at Hotel Piazza Venezia - it was reasonable priced, great location, and clean. Rooms are small but theyw ere fine. The first room we got the shower was weird, but we asked for a different room the next night w/ a bigger shower and got it.

Re: Hotel in Rome?
We were just in Rome last month.
We stayed at the Best Western Spring House on Via Mocengio. It was a block & 1/2 from the Vatican.
The subway was a block the other direction & was an easy ride to all the main attractions.
Hotel was newer, clean, average size for European hotels. Free internet, breakfast.
They didn't bang us over the head.

Re: Hotel in Rome?
I was going to suggest Best Western.
they are never fancy, rarely quaint, but ALWAYS a nice value and fairly uniform with their services and room sizes.
I've stayed in a ton of them in Italy (though never in Rome)
you can also check out a few of the hotels recommended by Rick Steves. he has some GREAT finds in there, which are more of my former description than the latter, and again, not too crazy on price. my uncle just stayed in one in May that was in a great area...I just can't remember the name. by the time we arrived, I had to pee so bad I just ran in and begged for a bathroom the concierge took pity on me..he gave me a bathroom AND a can of Coke for my long drive up to Milano. I'll see if I can get the name for you. my uncle had nothing but nice things to say!
enjoy!!!

A hotel that respects a lady's full bladder and cold refreshments sounds devine. Let me know if you find out the name!

Hotel Giardino He was able to get a discount b/c he had the Rick Steves Rome 2009 book. you'd have to let them know when booking.
the building was really nice, and the garden area was pretty from what I saw (it's kinda behind the reception area). he said the location served them very well and they walked everywhere.

Re: Hotel in Rome?
I loved our hotel in Rome - I've actually stayed there twice! It was nice in 2005, but it was VERY nice in 2007. They renovated a lot, improved the restaurant/bar areas, etc. Great location too - walking distance to everything except the Vatican (unless you like long walks!). if you end up staying there, I'll send you to the restaurant we LOVED.
I got the best pricing by emailing the hotel directly.

Re: Hotel in Rome?
We stayed at the Hotel Capo D'Africa this past May - on their website they had a deal for stay 4 nights, pay 3 (which is what we did), and other options for % off for less nights etc. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Colosseum, very nice on the inside, rooftop breakfast room with terraces, great staff. I would definitely recommend them.

Re: Hotel in Rome?
We stayed at the Hotel Savoy on Via Ludovisi. Nothing fancy but we had no real complaints. They have room service, complimentary cold & hot breakfast and a knowledgable front desk. The HOHO bus is also conveniently directly across the street. I have pics of the room if you want to FM me.
