Hote Reservations through Expedia

I am thinking of booking my hotel reservations through Expedia. I am kind of nervous. Have never used them before. Can anyone tell me the good/bad about using this site for reservations? Thanks.

Re: Hote Reservations through Expedia

I booked a few trips (airfare & hotel and just airfare) through Expedia and never had a problem.

ETS: My most recent experience was with airfare only. The airline changed the times and I called Expedia to see if they could go anything because I wasn't happy with the new times. They couldn't do anything about the flight buy they gave me a $100 hotel credit to be used within a year. I was very happy with that since my inconvenience had nothing to do with Expedia and everything to do with the airline who wouldn't do anything for me.

Re: Hote Reservations through Expedia

Is there a big difference in price between Expedia and the hotel's website?

I like to do my research through a big site like expedia and orbitz but book directly through the hotel.

1. It's usually cheaper
2. They tend to give crappier rooms to people that book through third party reservation systems
3. There are often hidden booking fees on these sites
4. If something goes wrong with the reservation, it's easier for the front desk to deal with their own reservations department than having to deal with a third party.

ITA - Also, many times with Expedia you pay up front - and if your plans change...

they're fine but if you want to talk to a person there just bear in mind that you may not get the smartest person in the bunch...i spoke to a manager about something (something that was the fault of the hotel, not expedia) and the woman didn't know how to read the word gratuity.

ETA: I got a $100 coupon as well, like the PP b/c of the trouble.

Re: Hote Reservations through Expedia

I've had no problems booking a hotel (I only do so if they're running a special).
I'm not fond of the flights with them.

I find flights cheaper through the airline directly (but use expedia to find the cheapest flights)

hotel booking isn't bad - as I have gotten better deals with expedia than the hotel directly - but like others have said - it's harder to change.

I use expedia all the time and have had great experiences.

Agree with previous poster - check the airline and hotel sites directly and see whats cheaper.

Unlike previous poster, I have had great experiences calling their customer service number. With the hotel we just recently booked, it was $100 cheaper than the other main travel sites (couldn't book directly because hotel is in barcelona and wasn't sure about exchange rates/fees). we can cancel anytime before 2 days in advance for a 100% refund.

I have used cheap tickets also and always had great experiences.

Re: Hote Reservations through Expedia

I've used them and had no problems. And I wouldn't necessarily agree with hotels giving the crappy rooms to users of 3rd party sites. Our room was actually upgraded when we went to Florida last year and we booked through Expedia. I didn't even ask for it.
