Hot water heater

As of right now we do not have a hot water heater. All hot water comes from our boiler.

I was talking to a few people who say I should look into getting a separate hot water heater either electric or propane run and that would save us a lot of money in oil.

Question..
Anyone who has done this: Did it save you money in the end? Was it enough to go through the work of getting a hot water heater? and how much does it cost to get one?

TIA

Re: Hot water heater

At our old house we had a combo oil burner/hot water heater.

Here we have a separate tank hot water heater, I don't see much diffence other than that our electric bill is a little higher than the other placeChat Icon

Re: Hot water heater

We did this last year, DH installed it himself. Only cost us $600 ish dollars for the parts.

It has saved us a lot of money in oil because the boiler was constantly running to keep water hot in the spring/summer/fall in case we needed water for washing dishes or showers.

My electric bill has not gone up that much, maybe $10 a month. But considering that it costs more than $10 a month to heat a house in oil plus the cost of the water heater itself, it's already paid for itself in a year.
