When I was teaching K one of my kids told me that his mom puts the "red stuff" in his mouth when he is bad. I didn't report it to CPS b/c I didn't think it was abuse but I could never do that to my child. The shower etc. is ridiculous. I know my mom used to tell my brother that he was going to get soap if he was bad.

i think the cold shower is more child abuse than the hot sauce. that poor little boy

I know we were threatened as kids with the "im going to wash your mouth with soap" but never did my mom do that.

I felt so bad for the kid

meanwhile, my neighbor next door drinks and drives with the kids in the car, smashed it up with 2 of the young ones in it 2 weeks ago, numerous trips to rehab, yet no social or case workers are involved. I dont get it...

Dr Karp! He really had a great point that we have more training on learning how to drive than raising children. That poor boy, your could tell he was terrified!

What gets me is that her attorney is comparing it to eating Mexican food!!!
She tells the kid to hold it in his mouth - poor thing!
How can people do that to their chidlren and not feel guilty? I just don't get it. I hope that boy was put in a safe home

I can't look after reading the responses. To me hot sauce or a cold shower is torture for a child. Why would someone do that to a child that they love? I just don't get it

I saw this on Dr. Phil and it still makes me sick to my stomach ~ poor little boy. (plus she has more kids) very sad

I think she is a disgusting person and am in tears watching this. Its always the sick fuuks like this that can pop out kids like nobodys business. Those poor kids..what does their Father think about this?

I feel so bad for that poor child, the mother needs major help. The way she yelled at him broke my heart. It is absolutely abuse in my book, the hot sauce, cold shower, and degrading way she spoke to him....he's only seven and he sounded so scared.

Oh my god

This is wrong for so many reasons.

Punishment procedures do not teach.

He received hot sauce for lying. When she asked why he lied, he stated so he would not get in trouble.... This is when an aversive procedure backfires, and they usually do. A child will engage in other "bad" behaviors to avoid the original consequence. Lesson lost, and in the end, more and more difficult behaviors crop up. He lied so he wouldn't get the punishment.. Hot sauce. Now he is learning he has to lie better next time. This commonly happens when an aversive stategy is put in place without a positive behavior support plan alongside it.

Terrible. Awful. This is very upsetting!

I have to say - I'm a child therapist and at least once a week I have to call CPS on a parent - so in a way I am somewhat immune to this

But this video brought tears to my eyes - how horrible!!

I can't imagine putting straight hot sauce in my own mouth or taking a cold shower myself...why would I do it to a vulnerable child!
