Re: Hostas

It's a plant for shade.

They can tolerate sunlight though for a few hours. I have a few that have mixed sunlight/shade because of the light in my yard.

Re: Hostas

I have them in full sun and in fully shaded areas. They seem to thrive everywhere - I have to keep splitting them so they don't take over the beds.

Re: Hostas

they seem to do well anywhere.I actually had look up what a hosta was, but realized i was calling mine river plants LOL

I have so many of them all along my house. in all amounts of sunlight and they do fine.

Personally i do not like them. they just keep getting bigger and bigger. I cant tell you how many I dug up and threw out this yr. and i have a ton more to dig up and throw out next yr.

Re: Hostas

Depends on the kind that you have for light requirements.

Definitely can be transplanted. The time to do it is when it still has leaves on it. When they get to be too big, you can split them up into "babies" and dole them out!

Yes! I just need to remove them from the foundation of the house because it is killing the drainage from the runoff.

Re: Hostas

I'm not a fan either. I have a few really light green ones that have great smelling white flowers right now. I kept them to keep alongside my walkway while I waited to fill it in.

You're welcome to mine too when I lift them. The ones that get more sun do better than the ones in full shade. I'll FM you when I'm planning on doing it, usually a weekend.

Hostas are really tough. Usually I wouldn't be transplanting something in heat of August but I think they can take it.

Re: Hostas

Last year we had received some from our neighbor that needed to split hers. They ok at first and than weren't looking so good. we did this in August. But this year when they came up and they all came back up, the our huge. I like them for where they are right now, but they do take over.

They are even bigger now. this pic is from when they first came up this season. I have these is sun, but I do have some in shade in the front yard and they are huge too.
