Homeowners! UGH
State farm just gave me the HARDEST time about signing with them after getting a quote a month ago. They told me to call back a week before closing and now they told me they arent giving out anymore policies.
I had to cry over the phone..our closing date is 8 days away and our baby is due in 10 days. He finally gave in and granted us the insurance. Why was he able to give it to me after all the trouble? What is going on out there? No one is giving out policies!
Oh and BTW do any of you pay extra for the disability insurance ( They pay 3 years of your mortgage if my husband becomes disabled) I wasnt sure if this was just a cheezy upsell.

I'll tell ya, it was a huge pain in the azz last year for us because we live near the water. And what are people supposed to do if no one is giving out policies anymore??? I'll tell ya, it's all assbackwards.

Re: Homeowners! UGH
When I was shopping for Homeowners insurance in 2008...as soon as I'd say "Suffolk County"...they were like GOODBYE! They didn't want to know if I was near water or not.
I finally got insurance through State Farm.

Re: Homeowners! UGH
I'm glad it worked out for you in the end. We just went through this and it was horrible. Nobody wanted to insure us because we are less than 1 mile from water. It's a small bay with canals, not the freaking ocean! One company also mentioned that its because we are near a large pond. Ridiculous!
Side note: When i lived on the east side of Manhattan, Allstate wouldn't insure us (rental insurance) because we lived near water. We lived on the 20th floor and on an elevated street! Crazy!

I had the same experience last week with a State Farm agent in Nassau. They are only permitted to write a certain number of new policies a year for Long Island and he already reached his cap. I tried All State and they would not write me a policy either! Anyway, the All State agent recommended a broker and she got us a policy with Farmers - for a pretty decent price.

I was told not to call the 800 numbers...to call a local office in your area. I called 6 different insurance companies at the 800 numbers and all told me the same thing.
