homeowners insurane
Jsut got my homeowners renewal and the prices has increased $560 for this year!!!LAst year it went up a little under $150. We use Costco and have our car under Geico...we pay with this incrase $2260 for a four bedroom coolonial, 2.5 baths....does that sound right...talk to our parents and they pay $1600 ..this new cost seems INCREDIBLY high and like a BIG increase to me. DH thinks it is due to Sandy but has anyone else seen this type of increase? I think we need ot explore switching but I think I looked last year and most seemed jsut as high...anyone have any recommendations??

Typically insurance goes up yearly for cost of construction increases and company increases every year. With Sandy yes, rates for everyone are bound to go up whether you had damage or not.
When it comes to what other people pay, there are so many factors besides how many bedrooms and bathrooms a house has. Age of home, square footage, basement or no basement, finished or not, oil heat or gas heat, central air, garage or no garage, attached/detached/built in (is there living space above), pools, trampoline.
Then there's any additional riders for jewelry, how much additional personal property coverage there may be, deductible amount, additional optional coverages such as water and sewer back up would all change things too.
There's no harm in shopping around obviously but when you do make sure that you are getting an "Apple's for Apple's" quote. Go line by line with your current policy and make sure your new quotes are the same. Slight changes in coverage could swing a quote a few dollars up to a few hundred dollars either way.

Are you in any of the new flood zones? Or were you affected by sandy? Ours is still around 1000 for the year. (3 bedroom colonial) but we are nowhere near flood zones etc. we have State Farm, maybe try them?

I am seeing a lot or rate increases coming through on auto & home policies. If you would like me to quote your insurance with the carriers I deal with, I would be happy to do so, or if you have any questions about anything feel free to ask.
