Home sick. Watching 16 and pregNant. Honest question.
So I have watched this show from the beginning. I stopped watching because it was just too much.
So I'm home sick, and watching old episodes.
My question is why haven't more of these girls chosen adoption for their kids?
Just about every single girl thinks that they will be with the boyfriend, get married, and live a great life.
I think all of them, except for maybe 2, all have the boys dump them within 4 weeks of giving birth.
And the girls are stuck at home doing everything while the guys are out working. The boys need to go out and hang with friends to get away from the nagging and pressure. The girls are resentful because they want to go to high school but are stuck at home all day with the infant. Or they can't drive, don't have cars or any resources, and are literally stuck with the baby all day with little support.
it's almost the same story in every episode.
And the girls keep saying, at the end, I wish I could move back the clock.
I'm really baffled at how so many of these girls don't see how your life stops being your own, and it's all about the baby.
I'm baffled at how more 16 year old girls don't give babies up for adoption.
And obviously I don't mean they all SHOULD. Nor that they can't raise the child. Nor will they be good parents.
Nor is it easy.
But I just don't understand.

Because then they wouldn't have their own reality TV show.
Personally, I have never watched it. I think the more people watch it, the higher ratings it gets, the more it glamorizes it.
Disgusting if you ask me.

I actually saw a real news report (abc or NBC) that said teen pregnant was down, and they specificLly attributed it to 16 and preg.
And if you haven't seen the show, I would say it does NOT glamorize it. I think they show what really happens.
Which also hasn't changed some reports we have heard, that girls try to get PG on purpose to be on the show.

I don't think it glamorizes it at all. To quote my 15 year old niece, "They're the ones that get stuck raising a baby all on their own while the guy takes off & does his own thing."
As for girls getting pregnant to be on the show, those are the ones that shouldn't be allowed to procreate. With teen pregnancy abound, they'd be better off playing lotto.

I really don't know, but I absolutely ADORE Catelynn and Tyler and they're my favorite couple from the show.
They gave the baby up and are one of the few couples to stay together. It probably goes hand in hand. Emotional maturity...or some level of it

Adoption is probably the most mature and sensible thing to do. That having been said, I think it is way easier said than done. Giving up your baby, no matter what age, is in a lot of ways harder on the mind and soul than keeping him/her.

I saw Chelsea's (Teen Mom 2) episode this afternoon. Ryan was a despicable scumbag and that message he tweeted was disgusting. I can't believe she takes him back time after time. I mean, I get why. But I wish she would fast forward to the point in her life's when she realizes he's always going to be nothing short of a worthless human being.

My feelings exactly. I think no matter the age and your financial/educational standpoint, it's not that easy to just say you'll give away your baby.

i think, the number 1 reason - they are 16 and not capable of REALLY thinking long term. they dont have the experience to understand what having a baby really is all about, what it takes, the committment, the way it affects every single aspect of your life.

Re: Home sick. Watching 16 and pregNant. Honest question.
I worked with teen moms for a while. I don't think they really understand how incredibly difficult it all will be. Heck, I was 40 when I had my DS, spent a lot of time with babies and children and don't think I fully realized how tough it would be, how it's all you, 24 hours a day.
For many of the girls I worked with, they came from families where they were abused or forgotten. Many of them thought that they would have this little person to love, who would love them unconditionally. They got caught up in that fantasy instead of really thinking about how profoundly their lives were going to change. Even when they were having their 2nd and 3rd kids.

Re: Home sick. Watching 16 and pregNant. Honest question.
I'll be honest, after having two of my own children, I could never imagine giving them up for adoption. Even if I was 16 years old. I just don't ever think I could do it because some day when my life was pulled together and I had a good job, I'd forever feel like I could have done it. And I am guessing that's how these girls feel. At least some of them. But I also know had I gotten pregnant at 16, I sure as hell wouldn't have had the baby and if I did, my parents would have helped me in any way possible so that I could still finish high school and college and have the life I would have had with no baby. Someone like Janelle, yeah, I wonder why in the world she kept Jace because she doesn't have anything to do with him really, but at the same time, I get it. I get why they all kept their babies.
