Re: home owners insurance
We used Matt Lavelle from Lavelle Insurance Agency.516-747-6262 He was great! Went to the new house to inspect, came to us to sign the papers. Had binders emailed to us immediately. He knew alot about what the different companies had to offer, and got us the best rate.
It cost about $1100 for one year. Tell him Pauline referred you.
and you have to pay a year in full before closing, at least thats what my bank required

Re: home owners insurance
We have interboro and the rate depends on the house and where it is (flood area).
Ours is more expensive cause we have an underground oil tank....this also limits us to who will insure us.
We had to pay a year before the closing. It had to be in place before we got the official clear to close.

Re: home owners insurance
You have to pay the full first year's premium before closing. My lender needs the paid receipt for our closing file. And amount totally depends on everything. Size of house (square footage), location, zone, age of home, age of boiler, furnace, electrical, roof, etc. So many things...
We went with State Farm, they've had our auto for years and our renters. It was easiest to stay with them and I price shopped a couple of others and the difference wasn't worth switching.

Re: home owners insurance
we are using utica first. 2,700 sq ft home no oil tanks, with a dog (pug), my e-ring covered, 2 fireplaces no alarm it cost around $1,400 for the year. our deductible is $1,500 and wind storm damage is 2% (which is low, everyone I priced out was 5%) all those things effect your cost per year. we also do not have any cars on the plan which give you a discount depending on the company.
We were told to pay it on our own, so i gave the ins co my cc info. they never charged me for it so I recently called them. they said we paid it at closing, which I was not aware of. So I'm not sure there is a set answer on if you pay it at closing or not. I believe we also escrowed 6 months of insurance at closing (saw that on my first mortgage payment stub)
