If you color your hair at home, which brand do you use? What technique do you use to apply? Whole head or root touch up?
My colors been looking kind of dull lately. I usually use Preference, but I notice it's not covering that well anymore. Wondering if I should change up the brand or hit the beauty supply store for a more professional one. It's not in my budget right now to go every four weeks and get it done at the salon.

Clairol Natural Instincts. I rinse my hair in the kitchen sink to dampen it, and then apply all over my hair. Keep on for 10 min and then take a shower and rinse/condition.

Revlon colorsilk. It's super cheap and covers the greys. It's a whole head solution but I just cover the roots. I've been using it for the last 15 years.

Re: Home hair color
I use L'Oréal Excellence cream...I do my roots every 4 to 6 weeks, covers the gray & white very well & makes my hair really shiny.

For those that do the whole head every time - you don't feel like the ends are then darker than the roots? Since my roots are so very gray/white, they come out a shade lighter than the rest.
