Home from 38 week appt....and upset

Okay, so last Tues I was 1cm and the Dr I saw (there are 3 in my practive) was concerned about the baby being 7 lbs @ 36 weeks growth sono. He'd sent me to rdo the 3Hr GTT, which came back fine (had a feeling it would).

Today, I saw one of the other Drs, who is not one of my fave's but oh well. He walks in, look@ my chart saying "Okay, you're 37 weeks (I know I am 38, but didnt want to interupt) and we're going to see if you're dilating at all (I know i am b/c I was 1cm last week-again, didnt want to interupt) and we're also going to send you for a growth sonogram since you have not had one since March (I DID- on Apr 12)" Just as I am about to say I did have a sono since March, the nurse asked if I ha, I said yes, on April 12--they couldn't "find" the notes appparently, whatever. This was so discouraging b/c I felt like my visit last week was not documented or this Dr didn't see the notes! I actually had to hold back the tears until I left.

SO, he does an internal exam and said I was 2cm and 70%. This did make me happy b/c I did progress from last week.

He asked if I had any questions and I told him I am very concerned w/ the swelling of my ankles/feet/calves and hands, and it' becoming more painful. He said my blood pressure is fine and asked if I have any headaches/blurry vision--yes to the headaches, no to blurry vision. He said He wants me to collect my urine for 24 Hrs and they will check it. Silly me doesn't ask WHAT they will check for---I really should NOT be allowed to go to the Dr by myself!

And that was it. I have my next growth sono on Tues May 1 (39 wks) and I also go back to the Dr that day, the appt is with the Dr I saw last week---thank goodness!!

SO, looks like tomorrow will be my last day of work, b/c I will be doing the loverly urine collection on Fri (yeah, not doing THAT at work), and they will not have results til Tues, and if the results are okay, what's the point of going back to work for less than a week.

That's that. Oh, he did say to stay off my feet, keep them eleveated and not to get up unless for bathroom or shower. WAIT--wouldn't that quailfy as some form of bedrest?!?! W-T-F?!?! I really need "adult supervision" with me at the Dr or at least a minute to digest things!!!!

Glad the 3 hour came back fine.

URG i hate doctors sometimes. I think that they are just so smart that they are stuiped.

But i'm going everything else went good and that u are dilated more and effacted.

Who knows he might be here early.
That is great that u get to see the baby again.

The 24 hour urine collection wil lbe tested to see if there is protein (and maybe sugar) in your urine. They are trying to monitor for preclampsia. I had to go through the same thing. Remember that the first pee of the morning doesn't get collected. Then start collecting all day, night and the first one in the morning...trying to get a good 24 hour cycle. You need to keep it refrigerated as well.

It'll all be good!!!

I'm sorry!!! It sounds like you just need to be more assertive with your doctors. I know it is difficult(I suffered from the same issue), but you need to know what is going on and like you are being taken care of by your doctors. Next time don't be afraid to ask questions or to interrupt.

awwwwwwww what a stinky appt. i hate those... glad the 3 hour came back ok, the 24 hour pp things is for protein in your urine......... i am happy tomorrow looks like ur last day!!!!! Please put those feet up and hey at least you are coming along, i am still 1 cm and long!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, you had a pretty crappy appointment

As far as the urine collection goes, it is definitely gross. I had to do it TWICE! I made sure to do it on the weekend b/c I wasnt about to cart a big orange jug of pee into work and plop it in the fridge.

sometimes I think that Drs go so fast, b/c they know what they are talking about, but forget the patients are clueless!!

I'm glad the nurse was in there at least to help!

Just take this time to relax at home in peace and quiet w/ your legs up and getting some well deserved rest. This will NOT happen again for a long long time-

(OMG- I can't believe you have to collect your urine- so sorry!!!!!!!!)

Im sure everything is will be fine..some doctors are just a abrupt at times..Thank goodness your next appointment is with the other doctor

I'm sorry that happened to you

I am the same way - I find that if I go alone and bring a small pad and pen I can write down any directions the doctor gives me - this way I can also jot down any questions I have b.c I always forget to ask something and only remember when I am on the way home or later that day.
