Home Depot VENT!
For a house warming gift, my parents bought us a grill. Nice, right! So, we take a nice little family trip over to Home Depot to pick out the perfect grill. DH and I pick this one out:
OK, so my dad orders it on December 12 for delivery on Saturday, December 17. Rewind back to December 14 when my parents go away for 2 1/2 weeks. They gave us all the paper work for the delivery and wish us an easy move (we closed on December 12, moved slowly over the next few weeks and officially moved in on December 27). We put the paperwork "somewhere". I remembered over those weeks that it was supposed to be delivered but since it never came, I just assumed that it was delivered to my parents house. My dad was going to come over to put it together anyway so I was thinking it was delivered there.
Fast forward to December 31 when my parents came home. I casually asked my dad about the grill and he says, umm, it was supposed to be delivered to you like 2 weeks ago! Oops, our bad for not following up on this!!!! DH finds the paperwork and sure enough, there is all the info! So I call Home Depot on Sunday, January 1 and get the run around from them. I ask to speak with the manager who has absolutely no idea what I am talking about! I give him an order number, explain how embarrassed I was that the gift giver asked me about the gift and i had to say I hadn't gotten it yet, yadda, yadda, yadda. He says that due to the holiday it must be delayed. At this point I stop him and say, what holiday, Thanksgiving? The grill was supposed to have been delivered LONG before Christmas so surely he couldn't have been referring to that! Well, he wasn't sure so he will have to look into it once the delivery department returns to work on Tuesday.
I call my parents and tell them the whole story. My parents now call the store to give them a piece of their mind. On Friday, my mother finally gets a call back from Home Depot. Apparently the person who was supposed to place the order quit so it was never placed! They didn't realize it since no one ever called to say they didn't get it! Imagine if this was supposed to have been a surprise! Well they said it would take about a week and they will let us know when it will be delivered.
Can you believe this! I definitely think they should give some $$ back or throw in a cover or something, right?

Wow, it stinks that they were so incompetent. Did you get any of those 10% off new home owner coupons, perhaps you could use that on the grill. Or ask them to give you a courtesy discount for their incompetence.
As an aside, I went there for a drill and the salesman tried to sell me this one model, and then they were out of it, so he was like well you need the higher up model which was twice the price. So I said, if I only need the cheeper one, then why sell me the more expensive one. So they sold me the more expensive model for 1/2 the price. So they will do it if you ask.

It was a gift from my parents and they wanted to spend a certain amt. so the 10% wouldn't help in this case, thanks anyway!
I really hate that bait and switch! I thought it was illegal to do that 
My dad is going to talk to them again so he will be asking for either some $$ back or some courtesy throw-ins.

Same thing happened to my friend with some tiles for her backsplash... the clerk *forgot* to place the order. She spoke to the manager and he gave them to her 1/2 off...

I would take my business elsewhere then. Home Depot thinks they have the market cornered but whenever possible I shop the competition because they have the worst customer service and many of their employees don't even know the basics about their depts. They are supposed to be cross-trained in at least two other depts One guy couldn't even find standard dry-wall screws for me. I had to show him what one lookes like
I'd cancel and go to Lowes, Sears, Jet-More in Wantagh or some other place.

They are not supposed to charge a credit card until the item is shipped. That's the law. They must credit the card. Any problems have your parents call the credit card company and dispute the charge.

Wow, I didn't know that! I'm going to call them right now to see about all this. Thank you all for the great advice!! Let's see what I can get from them now  Do I just flat out ask for money off?

I told tha manager that I originally spoke with that he has lost a customer by his horrible experience. He gave me the standard, "every customer is just as important as every other one blah blah blah". Meanwhile, I just called my mom to see if she has head from them yet about when it will be delivered, and nothing! I am going to give them a piece of my mind

i would email the ceo or someone higher up. it's usually not difficult to find out their email: [email protected],...my sister did this with lowes out in nj when she had an issue with her stove....long story short, she got the right persons name, sent him a 'nice' email detailing her complaints, and her issue was resolved the very same week.

We placed an order for composite wood for our new deck in May. We were told delivery in @2 weeks...actual arrival??? END OF SUMMER!! 3 MONTHS LATER.
My DH called them every week in the beginning,spoke to everyone & anyone. So much so, that they started to recognize his voice when he'd call,no need for introductions.
He decided to up the calling to everyday at lunch and everyday when he'd get home..he'd randomly go to HomeDepot and bother the manager,who in turn would run in the opposite direction when he'd see him coming.
When we finally got the wood (Trex) .. it was all damaged and had to be replaced! Probably 'cause it was sitting in the back somewhere for 3 months!
It was both comical & sad at the same time.
On a better note, I love my deck

I just remembered - I found a # on their website to file customer complaints. They called the store to find out what the problem was etc. It maybe something to look into. We didn't get any discount (which I was hoping for) or anything but just the satisfaction that they sat up and paid attn was enough for me.

We ordered a patio door from Home Depot on October 11 with a delivery date of 2 weeks later. Well the door was just received at the end of december. My husband would call back every week and was told that it was a manufacturer issue that the door was not delivered yet. They also tried to use the "its a holiday" excuse when we called last month. It was ridiculous since the door was ordered in October. We received a credit of 10 % after speaking with the store manager. We will never order anything there again.

PLease don't even get me started witht the HOME DEPOT in Farmingdale... We had no end of problems with them when we ordered out White Anderson Bay window.....The Mgr ( who was apparently fired) changed our order and made the window wood colored ( we got money off for that DH was P i s s ed)...half the hardware was missing and when we went to HD they told us the would call Anderson and call us back......3 WEEKS later I called Anderson myself and the hardware was delivered in 2 WEEKS......Then after putting the window together we found the lifts for the window were wrong.....Again back to HD 4 weeks in a row and nobody would help us....I called Anderson directly and the lifts should be here in another week....... I am SO not happy with home depot....

Thank you all for your replies. I can not believe so many of us have had problems with them. This was the first time I ever ordered from them and I always thought they were so wonderful. Now I know better than to do anything without consulting you guys first! 
A little update though, the grill is being delivered on Monday. It was shipped out earlier this week. I'll keep you updated once we actually get it!

I agree with this. I went in a few months ago looking for one of those cabinets to put over my washer & dryer -- the simple, preassembled ones. I asked somebody in the do-it-yourself cabinet department about them. He said he didn't know anything about having them. I continued to look, and I saw the dept. manager who just said "We dont' carry that". I said well that's funny, because they have them in the Selden store. He got annoyed and said "You can check on the back wall over there by ...(whatever he said)". Sure enough THERE IT WAS!!!. They have no clue over there!!! I hate them!!! It just stinks that there are so many of them around and it is just too easy to go there and be aggravated by them.

Yikes!!!! So far I have had 0 problems with Home Depot and I have ordered doors, custom made ones for my closets, stone for my backyard, also a Vermont casting BBQ but I took it home same day I purchased it- didnt want to wait for delivery. I use the one in east meadow and in Jericho. Never had a problem and with the service. But I do agree the managers and employees are CLUELESS!!!!!

Well, the bbq was delivered yesterday! Haven't taken it out of the box yet but so far, so good!
We were able to get a cover out of them for our hardship. DH is trying for the rotisserie as well. I'll let you all know how that goes!
