Home Buying - Where to Begin?
We are going to get started on our house hunt at the very start of the new year...but I don't know where to begin! I work in finance so I don't have any mortgage-related q's - I know we have to get our pre-approval etc. But how do you find a realtor you can trust? Do you just pick one out of a hat?!? If anyone has advice on how they started it would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I would ask friends for recomendations - also i would start going to open houses- slightly above price range and below - this helps you determine what is priced right - and figure out a list of must have's and what you can compromise
also if you connect with a realtor at an open house you can use them - but usually the ones that run open houses are starting out - i noticed

JK where are you looking? I'm in finance too so when we did our house hunt it was important for me to work with someone who spoke that language and didn't talk down to us. If you're looking in Huntington/Suffolk county I have a great rec!

That's exactly where we'll be looking. We are thinking Melville, Dix Hills, Commack, Huntington - those areas. I'd love the info if you wouldn't mind!
