Holy Rudeness!!
Sorry, hit the button too fast!!
DH and I went to his sons confirmation today. During communion, this little kid went up and received communion. He got back to his seat and was about to put the host in his mouth, when barreling down the aisle, comes this priest, a guest priest that was there with the bishop, and RIPS the host out of the kids hand and runs back to the alter. I could not believe he did that. He seriously looked like a mad man on a rampage coming down the isle, swooped in, no excuse me, no explanation, rudely rips it out of the kids hand and takes off. This priest was a visiting priest, did not know the congregation. This poor kid almost started crying. he had received his first holy communion and had every right to go up and receive it. I just could not believe this priest did this. It was church, did he really think this kids parents would have allowed him up there if he hadn't received the sacrament? And then he went and attacked another girl as she was walking down the aisle to which her mom just pushed him away. I was in shock and could not believe it.

Not defending the priest AT ALL, but the only thing I can figure is that he didn't like the fact that the boy took the host back to his seat?
In any event, the priest sounds a bit psychotic to me.

I thought that too, but then he went after another girl, who had just walked away from the priest giving out the hosts, and she had placed it in her mouth a second before he got to her.

No, they didn't even see it, they were giving communion! He was a priest that traveled with the Bishop. Never saw him before.

It might have just been b/c the kid took the host back to his seat. The priest might have been afraid that he was going to leave the church with it or do something "unreligious" with it. I dont remember exactly (12+yrs of catholic school you think I would) but I think you are suppose to consume it in front of the altar facing the altar.
ETA: Either way it wasnt the correct way to handle the sititution.

The kid had it half way in his mouth when he grabbed it. I was seriously looking for this priest afterwards, to find out why he did it, but he was no where to be found. He better say an extra hail Mary tonight.
What really bugged me was this kid was there with his parents, he was young, these are religious families obviously, Did he really think the kids parents would let him go up if he hadn't received the sacrament?? Just made NO sense to me what he did. And its like he went and hid afterwards!!!

What that priest did is horrible.
But to answer your question....
My brother and his wife allowed their youngest to do this before communion and the kid made a huge disgrace of himself saying eww and went to spit it out. I was absolutely horrified and I am not a practicing catholic at all. I was appalled that #1 they would let him go up when he has no idea what it is about, and #2 he would even attempt to do what he did in church. So yes, there are people that would do that.

I can't even imagine what I would have done but approaching the Bishop or writing a letter of complaint would definitely be options.
Yeah to the mom that pushed the priest away from her daughter!

I just asked my DH about this and he said you're supposed to recieve the host and put in your mouth right away, not take it in your hand to your seat.
he even went as far as to say that the Priest was in his right to do that.

Isnt the Church supposed to be where all are welcome and loved? That behavior doesnt sound very neighborly! There was definitely a better way to approach the little boy!

I honestly do not think that is why he went after him, because he went after another girl just as she walked away from receiving. And the way he did it was not right at all.
