Holiday Pictures?
This will be my first Christmas with a child and I'm clueless as to how much $$ a portrait session costs at a studio (I'm thinking JC Penney or Target) Can anyone shed some light on the subject? I know that sometimes there are Groupon offers which would decrease the price. Do either places I mentioned give you your pictures on a CD so that you can make holiday cards from them? Experiences with either? Thanks!

Usually a cd is extra. It's never crazy expensive. But definitely read the fine print on the groupons. Or call them to find out.

I love bayshore jcp. I usually buy the groupon and use that off my purchase price. Also keep an eye out for coupons around Oct that give you a $99 CD. The CD full price is $150 I believe but with the groupon you get the free sitting fee and 40% off the purchase price. You pick up the CD within 2 weeks of the session and can use those for christmas cards. Selena is my go to photographer.

Re: Holiday Pictures?
I have done Target Portraits for holiday cards the last 2 years and I did it with the Groupon. The Groupon was like $20-25 and came with a print or 2 and I think only a few digital images on a disk. It's too much pressure for me to narrow down pics with squirmy kids in tow so I opt to buy the disk with all images. I think for both the Groupon and discounted disk I paid about $100 total.

Holiday Pictures?
I appreciate this thread, but I cannot even think about the holidays and the prospect of winter... I need this summer to last as long as possible!
We just did our own pictures last year, and will probably do the same. DH and I are pretty good at staging and those pintrest pictures, so we'll likely do that again.

Another vote for jcp bay Shore! $20 groupon and I never purchase anything additional besides a 10x10 that we get each year. Super cheap and I've always been happy with pics

Re: Holiday Pictures?
I did Target through Groupon last Christmas and it was great.
Then I ordered the cards via Costco. Just got the CD from Target and designed my own card online.
I also did Picture People via Groupon and they were fantastic!
Then, I created my own birthday card for my son using Tiny Prints and the CD from Picture People.
Both, total, for everything -- prints included in the package, the CD with images, and the session was under $200 for everything.
This was via the Groupon deal which was for just the session and around $25.
So check out Groupon :)

Holiday Pictures?
The past two years I used a groupon for target. I think it was something like 19.99 for the photo session with 20 shots, then I got to pick my 3 favorite shots to be put on a CD, which I was able to use to make my own cards on shutterfly. I could have chosen to order cards from target, they were reasonably priced, but I had a better coupon for shutterfly. Both years I was very happy with the pictures we got. The first year I loved all 20, so I ended up paying extra for all of them on a CD, I think maybe $50.

Re: Holiday Pictures?
I did the VIP program at penneys the first time we went. It's $30 for 3 years, and gets you free sittings (otherwise $9 per child), and three $10 off coupons (so it pays for itself). I always wait to get the coupon for the $99 cd. Because dd's bday is in December, I do Xmas and bday together and then use the cd to make my own cards for Xmas, bday thank yous and portraits of both occasions for family. I know penneys and lot of other places, as pp mentioned, do their own Xmas cards for better deals, but I like the prospect of really picking out and playing with the layout of my own.
