Hockey?

My son is 4.5 - he's been begging for MONTHS to play hockey. He's never been on skates and he's not big on agressive sports (He didn't want any part of playing soccer) so I don't want to discourage him and refuse to let him try something he really wants to try - .......but at the same time I don't want to spend $500 to buy all of this crazy equipment and enroll him in a club for his age if he's going to refuse to get out there .........

Any suggestions for a more 'phasing them into it' program?

DH found one in Syosset that looks like it's associated w/ the Islanders

do you have any friends with older kids that have equipment that doesn't fit them anymore?

Try Play it Again Sports for equipment too. My BIL who lives in Florida is always sending DH there to pick up equipment for my nephew b/c he's always playing a new sport and it's cheaper there b/c it's used.

DS's BFF in preschool has been playing ice hockey since he was 2yo. When I first met them, the mom said her son played ice hockey and I thought I heard her wrong. I know the kid has had ice skating lessons for over 2 years, plays in a league and goes to the rink every chance they get.

eta: I would take him ice skating first to see if he likes being on the ice.

Have you looked locally for a Dek Hockey team to try out first?
