Pearl Harbor (US entry) 12/7/41
Battle of Normandy (D-Day) not sure when it began
1943 - invasion of Italy (significant, I think because it was the first axis power to 'fall')
Manhattan Project - the first ever nuclear detonation (even though this happened in 1945, I think that it's impact was HUGE).
