Hiring a nanny
I need to hire a nanny bc our current sitter isn't working out. I am so nervous about this...How can I start to feel better about my kids being with a stranger all day and in her car??? daycare hours don't work for us and I have spoken to everyone and no one can rec. anyone...
How did you go about finding and trusting your nanny???

When I was looking into hiring a nanny, I found this service brownstone nannies They are located in Brooklyn, but have clientele all over the tri0state area. Check them out--it could be a good starting point.

you can also try preschools... my friend's daughter is just starting preschool. they just left their nanny and all the other little kids did too... maybe put in a call to some preschools to let them know if anyone has a nanny they're leaving that they recommend, they can contact you.

Why would your child need to be in the car with your nanny? If that really makes you uncomfortable, then why allow it? I ask because my neighbor has a nanny, and her 2 daughters have NEVER gone in the car with her. THey do take walks around the neighborhood, but NO car rides.

not sure where you live but I ended up finding a mom in my neighborhood after advertising locally. I tried craiglist and there were some really scary responses, I treid the Child Care Council and beleive it or not the places I found there couldn't recommend anyone that had passed a background check...which freaked me out. A few people on this site I touched base with but the schedules didn't fit. At the end I found a women and was VERY nervous at first but over time I have come to really trust her, she loves my son, and I believe really has his vest interests at heart. She is very good to him and I do let her take him out locally to the library and to the beach for walks. It scares me a little but we have set gournd rules and she abides by them. Good luck in your search, it is not easy.....

thanks...I think Craigs List would scare me too. I am calling agencies tomorrow. I really hope I find someone I like that can takes my kids to the park and library...

I used an agency but the best resource I found was checking references - and you can tell when someone is a real reference or not. If you are that nervous you should consider installing nanny cams. We did - and it was one of the best decisions we made. As far as the driving thing, it would make me very nervous too but you do need it, if your older child needs to get to school. Again, I would ask for references of kids that she has driven around.

I used a website wecare.com. They check references and the people have to pay to be on it. We found a wonderful nanny there.

We found ours through the nanny across the street (so, word of mouth). We met with her NUMEROUS times before making the decision to hire her. We have had her for 2 years now.

She started on monday. I work part time from hom so I am still around to drive my daughter to and from school - but I am finding it hard to leave her alone with my son because he is so little. That being said, I do trust her, and I trust the service because I have a lot of friends who have used them. I think it just takes some getting used to.
