Anyone have to put their child in a harness for this? Any info will help. I have to bring her to a ortho dr. to know if she needs it for sure but I just wanted to know your experiences.

Re: Hip Dysplasia

My son was in a harness for this for 12 weeks since birth. Not going to sugar coat it, it was hard to see him in it at first, but I got used to it real quick and it didn't bother him one bit. Think it was more bothersome seeing him in it than being in it. He is 13 months now and began walking all around the house! We thought it would delay his walking development but seems like it hasn't effected it at all.
Feel free to FM me with any questions you may have, I am open to answering any questions, I know how hard it was for me as a mommy .

Re: Hip Dysplasia

a friend of mine did... shes had it on 24hrs for 6weeks and then 12hr for 6w... they are off now for a few weeks.

At first her legs were still wide open but now its just a tiny bit and only people that knew she had them on can tell.

Re: Hip Dysplasia

As a result of being a preemie my DD had this and wore the harness from about 2 months old until about 6 months. Looking back it was so much harder on me then it was for her. I hated having to see her in it but when you think about it at that age they don't know any better so it doen't phase them the way we think it does.

If you have any specific questions or anything else you'd like to know about feel free to FM me!

DD wore it for her first 12 weeks and then at night for another 6. I definitely think it's tougher for us to get used to than the babies. There was another post just a few days ago with lots of info. This one I wouldn't be too worried until you know for sure, but be mentally prepared that if DC needs it they'll put it on right then and there. Within a few days though, you'll get used to it. GL and feel free to fm me any time!

Thanks for your advice/ experience share. We have an appointment on Monday morning. I'm just going to expect the harness and if it happens then it happens...

Re: Hip Dysplasia

My friend had this with her DD. They tried the harness at first but they eventually had to have surgery to repair it. They went to the hospital for special surgery in the city for it.
She was a happy little girl who didn't seem to be bothered by either the harness or the cast.
All is fine now.

I wanted to add, that if it does turn out to be worse than expected- get a second opinion at hospital for special surgery in Manhattan! but hopefully she won't need surgery.

So she did need a harness after all. :( three weeks ago we were told to put three diapers on. Guess it was just a waste of diapers.
