If you google Hilton Head, their tourism board will send you a free guide to the area. I did it last year, but we didn't take the trip.

We rent for a week when we go down, much cheaper than a hotel & more space. Tuesday nights there are fireworks. There is also weekly night entertainment at the cove. Rent bikes, the sand is so hard you can do that on the beach (car seat type bike, or tandum with the 6yo) Boat cruises with dolphins Kayaking
It's all paved pathways, which are tree/Spanish moss covered, so it's beautiful & shaded.
We've been going for years & love it so much!!!!

There's a cute children's museum called The Sandbox there. DS had just turned 2 when we went and loved it.
We stayed at Disney's resort there and loved it. They had toddler crafts, kid crafts, movies by the lake, campfire and s'mores, etc.
