Highlights - Does it really matter who/where you go??

I have been getting a half a head of highlights for many years from the same colorist. I met someone recently who does hair from her house and lives around the corner from me. I am tempted to try her out but I don't want to ruin my hair. I LOVE the way my highlights come out w/ my usual person but it would be so convenient to go to the new person.

So does it matter who does your highlights or are they all pretty much the same? I only get highlights in foil, nothing else.

TIA!!!

Like any hair service...I totally think some are better than others...and some are down right HORRIBLE!

I think you should try it out. The worst that happens is you don't like it and have to get fixed. Does anyone you know use her? It is pretty simple to do highlights, sometimes people mess up the tone though.

yes it does!!! the woman who used to do my hair did an amazing job with my color! she took so much time and care and she moved too far east for me. i have yet to "settle down" with a new stylist. I got a groupon for highlights at cactus and the girl i got did a terrible job!!! i dont know where to go now Chat Icon

i guess its kinda like spagetti (sp)
you only really know how great a cook is until you find one who sucks so bad you dont understand how they can mess up something that seems so simple :)

highlighting doesnt seem to take talent but if its done the right way...its about talent, patience and skills.

imo if you find someone who really rocks it for you....dont mess with the great recipe kwim? lol xoxox

I would try it out. I used to go to a great girl who worked out of her home, she was much better than anyone I found in a salon. If this person does a bad job just don't go back. It might be worth it for the time and money saved.

If you LOVE your current place, I wouldn't mess with a good thing.

Don't mess with it.
There are SEVERAL ways they can screw up highlights- trust me I know.

I used to use a girl who was a true colorist- she knew exactly how to do my highlights so they were never too light, too damaging etc.

When she stopped doing hair, I started going elsewhere and this woman had NO IDEA how to do highlights- and I always ended up hating it.

Stick with what you love!

Re: Highlights - Does it really matter who/where you go??

Yes it does matter who you go to. I've been highlighting my hair for over 15 years.

Some colorists have been great, some have literally fried my hair at the roots.

If you love where you are going, don't mess with it.

Of course, price, location and convenience are all good reasons to try someone else. But if none of these are reasons to leave your current girl, then stay with her.

My best stylist was truly an artist--she blended different colors, clustered more in some areas than others...It was beautiful. I moved away, and haven't found anyone as good, so stopped bothering since I hated how they turned out most places.

Re: Highlights - Does it really matter who/where you go??

After reading all the replies I have decided to STAY with my current colorist. I wasn't sure of the process since I have only been to one person for highlights. I guess I just got lucky to have found a great colorist.

Thanks for all the replies!!!!!
