High fever

My ds (21 months) has 104.5 fever. I gave him motrin at 630 and it seemed to go down a degree. He fell asleep. When i went to check on him he woke up. Just took his temp again and it is 104.7. Gave tylenol. Should i let him sleep, call the doc?? Hes never had a fever this high. I was at the office this afternoon and they said it was a virus.

High fever

I agree and to try and keep him cool put ice packs behind his neck in the armpits and between the legs in addition to alternating with Motrin and Tylenol

My DS had a 104.5 fever a few weeks ago. I brought him in and was told it was just a virus. His fever would not go down even with alternating motrin and Tylenol and I called the doctor later that night and they told me ice pops (since he was refusing to drink), a tepid bath, keep him in a t-shirt and diaper and a cold wash cloth under the armpits. Not ice cold but cold. Also to alternate between motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours. It brought his fever down almost immediately.

This. Do not use ice, but cool washcloths are good.

Re: High fever

alternated between motrin and tylenol and call dr. Sounds like a virus, but I would still get ears and stuff checked just in case.

The only time DS's fever got that high and was really hard to fight, it ended up being roseola. But you won't know that until/if when the fever suddenly just stop, he gets a rash within 24 hours. Its just another type of virus. Not much else you can do for these things.

Re: High fever

Keep an eye out for a rash that pops up in case it was roseola
