High DHEA levels
Has anyone else been told they have high DHEA levels? My RE says that explains the hair growth. Unfortunately there is no way to "treat" this. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks

Originally I was diagnosed with PCOS, but then they run more blood work and found the other levels confirming PCOS were normal. Although I have cysts, it is just 2 cysts, not multiple little ones, so that is another indicator that I do not have PCOS. Ugh, who knows what is going on in there?

i think they way they diagnose PCOS, you do not have to have all symptoms that go with it. Once they hear at least one or two things, they assume the rest and lable you as PCOS. I might be wrong though

I have heard this too. It is more a diagnosis of ruling things out and having 2 or 3 "symptoms" of the syndrome (there are many).

All I know about DHEA levels it that usually we have high numbers in our 20's and as we get older it decreases. Mine was tested by my endocrinologist and it was low but in range for my age group. When i started taking it over the counter for an IVF cycle I got a ton more follicles and eggs than ever before. And there were studies done for AMA women who took it and some found success because their DHEA was low. Its testosterone. Lots of body builders will take it to build muscle mass too.
My question to you would be how old are you? And I have low DHEA and I have unwanted hair. And I don't have PCOS.
I thought they diagnosed PCOS via FSH to LH ratio? Or something like that. Because my endocrinologist was sure he was going to "figure out my problem" with my b/w and prove I had it. But, of course, I didn't. About the only thing I don't have, I guess.

FSH/LH ratio is only one symptom of PCOS. A lot of PCOS girls have normal ratio

PCOS is dx when you have several symptoms of it. theres no speicifc criteria that you HAVE to have in order to be dx with it.
i have PCOS but have no cysts at all; although i do have the classic FSH:LH ratio.

Thanks for your responses. I am 29 years old and I was told my ratio was normal. I found this website to be useful, hopefully it helps.
