High amniotic fluid level (34 weeks)...

Just had sono today and Dr. said that my amniotic levels were a little high. The technician measured it at 24 and the doc measured at 21. She told me that 60% of the time it's nothing, but it could be attributed to gestational diabetes, genetic disorders, babies inability to swallow or stomach/brain abnormalities. It is just so scary to hear this even though she checked for all of those things and baby checks out fine. Has anyone else had this situation? What was the outcome? This pregnancy has been a long road and I just want a healthy baby!

I understand it could indicate a problem, but I didn't get too worried over fluid levels. It's not something that's terribly accurate and there is such a wide range of normal.

I have this condition now and am 38 weeks along. I had GD during my first pregnancy but didn't have it during this one but my doctors have scheduled me for a csection in a few days.

Are you seeing a perinatologist and getting regular scans? If so, he/she will be able to monitor you more close just to be on the safe side.

Hope all goes well and it's nothing serious!

I am getting regular scans. Are you getting a c-section due to this or for another reason? I'm just concerned bc the doc said that 65% of the time it's nothing- but could be (rarely) something more serious.

High amniotic fluid level (34 weeks)...

I had very High levels ...they couldn't figure out why because most times it is asssociated with gd and my number was so low they knew I wasn't even borderline. I was high risk ( have a clotting issue and was on lovenox) and then her growth percentile kept dropping....because of all 3 things at 34 weeks I started going in 2x a week. Once for nst and one sono....
Long story short baby girl is perfect. She was tiny but perfect Dr did warn me if my water broke at home to get to hospital ASAP but I was scheduled for an induction ( was supposed to be 38 weeks but due to growth and hurricane sandy was 37w2d). My water broke after cervadril and I felt like I was gushing forever ( sorry for tmi)
It can be scary but try not to google. Hugs!

Thank you so much for the info! I am so nervous bc it is unexplained and they said it could be nothing and probably is ... Or it could be something more serious. So happy to hear your little one is wonderful! Congratulations! I wonder if I'll go early? Do they schedule a c section due to the high fluids?

I think there's a few reasons for the csection. When they detected the high amniotic fluid level I was close to 38 weeks and was scheduled for a csection a few days after my due date anyway. They just up the csection date because they think I may have late stage GD (even though I tested negative they think there's still a chance to develop GD later on in a pregnancy) and didn't want to risk the health of the baby.

Since both doctors (primary and high risk) felt the same way, I went with it.
