Heparin?
Anyone currently on it? I'm supposed to go on it in a few weeks so that I can have an eppi without the worry of hematoma from Lovenox. However, I'm hearing some "buzz" around Heparin out in the medical professions. Not sure of the validity of the stuff I'm hearing. Just curious to know if docs are still prescribing it at this point or if it's impossible to get. I don't mean to be aloof with info, but why put some "rumor" out there if it's not true. If there are issues with it - I sure do hope that childbirth isn't as painful as they say! I was looking forward to the eppi, but a hematoma - not so much. Unless maybe they'll stop the Lovenox, but that's extremely risky too.
Anyway, just wondering if those in the know - know.

Re: Heparin?
I was switched to heparin 2 weeks before my due date. The only side effect I had was severe itching (I had an allergy to it)
I had scars on my legs from scratching them so much while in labor.....
Aside from that, everything worked out fine, I got my epi and had a beautiful, healthy baby girl

Re: Heparin?
Yeah, this is a little more recent.
There was a Wall Street Journal article yesterday from what I remember on the Web site, regarding another article from last week.
I know that in the past it's worked well for many people. I'm just curious if now and going forward what the availability will be.

Re: Heparin?
Basically, there was a recall on Heparin maufacturered by a company called Baxter. Apparently one of the inactive ingredients is made in China and it was responsible for some pretty serious allergic reactions. Baxter recalled the drug with specified lot numbers and the gist of the article is that they hope there will be enough Heparin for those that need.
That's the gist of the article. I heard about it at a doctor's office. So I googled "Heparin and FDA ban". I found a few things, but the Wall St article was one of them. I think the first article was on like 2/14 and the second article with the recall was in 2/28.
Again, I didn't want to alarm people for no reason should there not be any reason for alarm.
