Help with transferring

DS is not a great napper. Sometimes he'll fall asleep on his own in the crib (all the time in daycare LOL). Often he falls asleep on me or my husband. There are times we can put him into his crib and he'll stay asleep, but the majority of the time he starts crying immediately. We pick him back up and he falls right asleep. Since he already is a poor napper we just hold him so he can get some sleep. Any advice on how to make the transfer easier? We've tried back, side and belly.

Also we're about to move him from his infant seat. He ALWAYS falls asleep in the car, and I'm worried there is no way he'll sleep through getting out of the car seat. Any tips on that?

He's almost 7 1/2 months

I would love to hear the answers to this because we are in the same predicament.

CIO. It might not be what you want to hear, but it will work.

For us, DS naps best if we put on his music (soother or mobile) and give him a few stuffed animals. He listens to the music and plays with the animals until he fall asleep. Sometimes he cries for a minute or 2, but he usually goes down to sleep.

DC wants you but NEEDS sleep.
Letting LO protest cry or whine isn't the same as abandoning them.

Help with transferring

Never been a CIO. I held her and would put less and less of me on her. Let her lay on my thigh etc to 'wean' her if you will. But I could never deal with that cry of "Mama I love you.. where are you" but yes,.. I fully admit I am weak! LOL

The carseat thing seemed like an enigma to us too. She always slept what would happen in a convertible? Well ya know what, she slept there too LOL awkwardly at first but as she grew it got more comfy for her. She would stay asleep when I took her out and it wasn't easy, but she did. Now that she's older she'll wake up a little to put an arm around me but fall back asleep.

She'll get in the car and I'll look back and 'see' that look (convertible OR booster) and I'll say "Take a nap" and she will immediately close her eyes and fall asleep. Its funny really.

For me, as with everything in childhood, they will grow out of stuff.

I also noticed she woke up when I laid her down in the crib because of the difference from comfy warm us to her cold hard crib mattress. So we would 'pre warm' a blanket (swaddle type) to put under her before laying her down. I would put it under my thigh to warm it up LOL Oh those were the days. But naps weren't a big deal for us. Working full time we felt like naps were our chance to hold her and cherish her and wonder how small she was yet how much she grew. I don't regret it at all.

Help with transferring

I go through the same thing dd 9 months did not sleep yesterday. I literally tried for hour on and off but each time she woke up when i put her in.

What seems to work (sometimes) is I hold her close to as I slowly put her down and I still "push" on her if you will, and shhhhh her and rub rock her until she stops movign around.

Help with transferring

I've tried a CIO and he doesn't go back to sleep. I recently did 40 minutes and he fell asleep for 30 minutes and woke up hysterical again. To me that's not self soothing, thats passing out from exhaustion, so I'm not really willing to do that again at this point. He'll be starting daycare full time in a few weeks, so maybe the schedule will be more consistent.

Re: Help with transferring

We have a lot of the same issues. DD is a terrible napper. She'll fall asleep while nursing on the Boppy and at this point I'll leave her there, or DH puts her in the Ergo to nap. She fights sleep and when she does fall asleep during the day, it's not for long.

Night is it's own separate issue. She sleeps for longer stretches, but it takes us forever to get her to sleep. It takes me twice as long as DH! I think all she wants is booby comfort when she's with me. I was literally saying to DH last night will if we ever be able to just put her down and she'll go to sleep and tonight I was reduced to tears because it took almost 2(!) hrs to nurse and get her to sleep. She woke up twice and the second time DH went in and rocked her back to sleep within 5 minutes. Sigh.
