Help with spiteful kitty...
We have our puppy in the house now for a few weeks and the puppy has wanted to play with her and she ignored her (growling, hissing, smacking her, etc) but the puppy has been always looking for some extra 'play time' with this kitty. She is 4 1/2 and we have NEVER had an issue with her until yesterday.
DH and I were in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner and I looked over and saw kitty sitting in the sink.. So I said to DH, what is that about - you think she is peeing? As it turns out, that was EXACTLY what she was doing! So we disinfected the sink and spent some quality time with her (figured maybe she is struggling with the dominance thing since the puppy is here) - her litter is clean, not a new litter, no new food, not crying when peeing, no blood in pee, definitely not a UTI.
Today, I walk into the nursery and we had DH's spring wardrobe in boxes and she was sitting in one of them and jokingly I said to DH that I hoped it wasnt a repeat of last night with the pee .. IT WAS! DH lost an entire box of spring clothes. We went downstairs to clean up the spare room and kitty comes walking out.. she pooped behind the recliner..
Few hours later I ran an errand while DH was out - I came in the house to a putrid smell.. She went in ANOTHER BOX of his spring wardrobe and peed AND pooped all over his clothes!
After dinner, DH and I are taking the pup for a walk... We looked at each other (same smell..) She went AGAIN in the spare room AND in my livingroom...
Her litter box is in a spare walk in closet in the hallway with EASY access - that to pee or poop on the floor she had to walk past the litter box to get there..
What can I do?! We have been sleeping with her every night, giving her treats, snuggling, etc.. it is just SO out of the blue...
TIA

Re: Help with spiteful kitty...
mine would pee and poop in the bathtub when I had a foster cat
then one of them peed on my purse
I was thankful it was the bathtub after that....

Re: Help with spiteful kitty...
WOW thank god we haven't had stubby do that instead she bites and scratches us. She has been horrible this week attacking us for no reason. DH is really getting angry at her and wants to toss her back out because he doesn't get why she is doing this. I told him its because she is bored and inside too long and wants to be out to play with the black stray that we take care of outside.
I am sure the kitty will get used to the dog eventually but it might be a while. I would give her a ton of extra attention (this is what i was told) give her snacks nad get the spray bottle for whenever she pees on anything and try to get her to stay in a pee friendly room (something easy to clean up) Good luck!

Re: Help with spiteful kitty...
i don't know a lot about cats, but i don't think animals get spiteful. i just don't think they have that level of cognitive ability. maybe your cat is really stressed out about the puppy? could you call the ASPCA and ask for advice? i know they have a behavior hotline or something (i think). same for stubby. it must be hard for him to adjust to being indoors, and you don't really know what his background was before you let him inside.

Re: Help with spiteful kitty...
I'm so sorry--I wish I knew the answer.
We are having pretty much the same problem with my mom's cat. My mom has been living with us since she moved down to NC, and her cat does NOT like our cat (our cat is very friendly and tries to play with her, but she's old and apparently not interested). She started peeing/pooping in various spots in our house.
My mom and I have had blow-out fights over this, but neither of us knows how to fix it. I really wish there were a "cat whisperer" out there.
